Our Grade 4 student, Mini Sun and Grade 7 student, Bella Yu won the Gold Award at the 2024 Japan International Children's Manga Award with their works "Forest Princess" and "Girl in Dream" respectively.
G4 Mini Sun Forest Princess
Mini's sharing was warm and full of childlike innocence. With a colorful heart, she can always weave dreamy stories on the canvas. This time, she carefully drew a painting named "Forest Princess" with her favorite colors.
Speaking of the future, Mini's eyes shimmered with a unique light. She has a special and warm dream of becoming a chef who transforms dishes into art. In her imagination, the kitchen is not only a place for cooking delicious food, but also a stage for creating miracles.
Mini's world is a fairy tale kingdom full of endless possibilities and colorful imagination. She spreads happiness and beauty to everyone around her in her own way. How can one not love her and look forward to more surprising works and stories from her in the future?
G7 Bella Yu Girl in Dream
“The original intention of creating this painting is to encourage everyone to face life with optimism and never give up, no matter what happens. I hope my work can bring warmth and hope to everyone, and let us face every challenge together.”
“My work is a three-view of a character, named Olivia. Her dazzling golden hair radiates a charming light, and she wears a pink coat, showing an elegant and charming posture. Her face is always filled with a brilliant smile, as if it can dispel all the gloom in the world.”
In her sharing, Bella also thanked the school for providing teaching support, especially the careful guidance of her Arts teacher, Ms Niki Yao. Whenever she encountered difficulties, Ms Yao always timely extended a helping hand and gave her valuable advice, which helped her continuously improve her works and achieve excellence. At the same time, Bella also thanked her own efforts and dedication, as it was her wholehearted commitment that led to her outstanding results.
Bella expressed her love for art and plans to continue exploring new things to enrich her life and broaden her horizons in the future.
In addition to the outstanding performance of our students, Ms Yao also received the Academic Guidance Award of the competition. She was awarded the Certificate of Honor for Excellent Guidance Teacher at the Japan International Children's Manga Award, which is a recognition of her achievements in the field of art education.
When sharing about her experience of winning the award, Ms Yao emphasized the importance of respecting children's inner world. She provided children with a space for free creation, and only offered guidance and support when necessary, helping them overcome difficulties. Although the award was the result of a casual choice during an extracurricular activity, it profoundly demonstrated children's love for comics and the power of self-directed learning. She believes that it is this process of self-directed learning and creation that greatly stimulates children's creativity and imagination, while shaping their confidence and independent thinking skills, which has led to their excellent achievements today.
This award not only recognizes the artistic talents of our students, but also affirms the performance of Yew Wah Art Education on the international stage. We believe that they will continue to achieve good results on their artistic journey, and let us look forward to their future together.
